Shop With a Cop

The annual Shop with a Cop event was developed to serve children who may have had negative experiences or beliefs surrounding law enforcement and first responders, and would benefit from positive interactions. Children served by the Betty Chinn Homeless Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Boys and Girls Club are invited to participate every December. The participants are paired with volunteers from the Eureka Police Department, Humboldt Bay Fire, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, having breakfast at the Wharfinger before being transported to Target through a fun ride in emergency vehicles with the sirens on. Participants and their buddy have $100 to shop for whatever sorts of toys, clothes or other items they want or need, while fostering a positive connection.
